Rainy day fun

Sorry it's been awhile...We had a million things going on: housesitting (and walking their two dogs), preparing for Camp Invention, and the usual running around. In the middle of all this I somehow permanently misplaced my camera. Erg. =-[ There were at least a dozen things I was dying to take a picture of. Like Coby jumping off of a diving board. And we leave for Oregon this week so I had to replace it. Thank goodness for craigslist! Coincidently there had just been one posted for half-price (my personal craigslist rule is don't pay more than half of the new price) and it was the exact same brand and make of model new in the box.

We had all kinds of plans for today - swimming, Dairy Queen, and the butterfly rainforest - so of course it's poured all afternoon. Instead we had a wonderful time indoors at the Natural History Museum.
For the summer they have a "Discovery Room" open for kids and parents with arts and crafts, puzzles, and other fun stuff.

The creatures on the wall all had velcro on the back so they'd stick. Every time Coby got one to stay up he'd celebrate.
While we walked around the museum he really go into finding all of the kid-friendly flaps and compartments.
He was not so much a fan of the giant eel behind him in this picture...
Before we left we stopped by the area where the rainforest is and talked with the scientists who were hatching the butterflies. Jacoby was very interested in the butterflies crawling out of the cocoons.
Before we left we walked through the shark hall of fame.
In other news, we have caterpillars living on the butterfly milkweed Coby and I planted at the beginning of the summer! I have a bit of a black thumb, and to be quite honest, am quite pleased that everything is still living. To have butterflies and caterpillars visiting our garden is such a treat!
