Take me out to the ball game...

I took Coby out to the 'ole ball game yesterday to watch the Gators play the Arkansas Razorbacks. After getting some snacks, we settled down out in the bleachers (aka the cheap seats) so that he could run around and not bother anyone. It also gave him plenty of room to throw his popcorn around :o) I'm telling ya, that kid is CRAZY about popcorn!

We only lasted until the end of the third inning before it was naptime so we headed back home. Robert has been very busy with his high school tennis team. They made it to the state championship for the first time in school history! He made it home later that afternoon and we all relaxed out in the backyard. Coby provided us with plenty of entertainment as he repeatedly filled his shoes with dirt and then dumped them out.
What is with this kid and dirt?!?
Then he decided that Robert looked thirsty so he offered him some of his drink...

Yummy...

Party for the Planet

This weekend Jacoby and I went to the Sante Fe Community College Zoo for their "Party for the Planet" to celebrate Earth Day. Jacoby LOVED looking at all of the animals! He especially liked the capuchin monkeys. We probably stood in front of their enclosure for 30 minutes when we first got there and then another 10 or 15 as we were leaving. Here's the mama and her baby (they were Coby's favorites!)
The zoo had organized activities and demonstrations for the entire day. We got a chance to watch the river otters practice their finger painting. Coby got himself a spot right up in front, popcorn in hand...
Being one, Coby has a pretty limited vocabulary. He says "dog" and "baa" for sheep. When he saw this little deer he immediately said "dog."
Hopefully we can make it to Jacksonville sometime this summer. They have a larger zoo there with lions and zebras and elephants. The Sante Fe Zoo is a teaching zoo and much smaller.

Coby's 1st Camping Trip

Robert and I have been camping at Anastasia Island State Park in St. Augustine for the last several years. We took a year off when Coby was an infant, but now that he's one, we decided to pack up the tent and try camping as a family. Not without reservations though...for our first trip we decided to only book one night, just to see how it goes. I think we were most worried about how he'd sleep. Jacoby has a half dozen blankets, stuffed animals, lovies and other sleep aides that he needs at bedtime in order to relax. But, I am happy to report, it was a success! He took to camping like a fish to water! We should have known that with all the dirt, sticks, and room to run we wouldn't have to worry about a thing.
After putting up the tent we went down to the beach for a quick dip.
Jacoby was so funny in the water - when the waves would come up, he'd run away. Playing on the beach with dad was much more up his alley.
I of course had to get in the water, so I took the little munchkin with me.
After all that running around, getting him to bed was no problem...

...at least not after a quick wrestling match!

This was a quick trip, so in the morning, we got up and had to start packin. Coby was right there in the thick of things, helping Dad the entire time.
Afterwards we headed into St. Augustine for a little lunch and a tour of the Castillo de San Marcos.
Stay tuned this summer for more camping stories! After the success of this trip, we both agreed that we need to take this guy on as camp-outs as possible. We love Anastasia Island, but O'Leno State Park is just down the road from us in High Springs, so we'll see where we end up...

Easter Egg Hunt

Hallelujah, Spring Break is here! And to kick it off right, we hosted an Easter Egg hunt in our backyard today. All the babies (and one big brother) from our playgroup came over. Robert's been so busy with high school tennis, league play, lessons, and life in general that he hadn't gotten around to mowing the lawn since Coby's birthday party. Normally not something I'd be real happy about, but the knee-high grass/weeds created the perfect place for an egg hunt.
At first, the babies didn't really "get" the whole Easter Egg hunt concept, but once they figured out there were goodies inside, they got pretty interested.

I can't take credit for organizing the EEH, another mom, Shellayna did all the work, but since she lives in an apartment, needed a backyard to spread the eggs out in. Just one more reason I absolutely love our house. She got fruit chews, Gerber cookies, and cheerios to put inside - basically the baby version of jelly beans, chocolate bunnies, and peeps :o)

After he figured out there was food inside (notice he's eating in EVERY picture) Coby abandoned his basket and decided to use his wagon instead...
Shellayna also brought this awesome cake to the party. Like I said, she was really the hostess, I just happened to have a backyard available.

At this point the babies were hopped up on sugar and ready to rumble. We got out the tube again and they had a blast chasing each other through it!

And then they got out the ball machine. Boy is that thing LOUD! Thanks again Uncle Andre...
Notice the plundered egg in the corner of the photo? It wasn't too much longer before we all needed naps and folks started heading home. Both Coby and I fell asleep immediately after everyone left. I actually had to wake Jacoby up at 6:00 so that he'd still sleep tonight!
